About Chris

I’m Chris Bennett, minister of Wilton Community Church in Muswell Hill, North London, and part-time lecturer in Greek, New Testament and homiletics at London Theological Seminary.

I’m concerned here with the meaning and implications of the Bible, with systematic theology in the Reformed tradition as defined by the Heidelberg Catechism, with the dynamics of piety or communion with God, and with how to do the work of the Christian gospel, especially in a local church.  I see the Bible as centring on God’s saving, reconciling and restoring grace in Jesus Christ, with the doctrine of justification by faith alone as of prime importance.  And I see the implication of this justification, Christian liberty (see Calvin’s Institutes, book 3, ch.19 for what I mean by this), as something beautiful and crucial yet somewhat undervalued in the Reformed tradition.  I’d also like to encourage thought about the whole of life from the position of the freedom of God’s children.

My top 3 heroes, as writers or thinkers, would be John Calvin, Herman Bavinck and Tim Keller.

I’m married to Esther, have 3 daughters, and enjoy playing the violin in a string quartet – especially when we are playing Schubert’s Death and the Maiden or have grown to be a quintet and are doing Mozart K516 in G minor.
